My Journey
I have always been deeply curious about people and the dynamics that evolve when they come together. I was constantly asking questions and reflecting on why things happen, observing who makes them happen, and what impact these actions have on the world around us. Growing up in South East London in a family of colourful characters who valued service & hard work shaped my early view of the world, whilst also creating an increasing desire to explore outside the world I knew - to understand more and to learn more.
Being the first generation in my family to attend university, the early steps of my career were full of exploration, curiosity, and more than a little uncertainty. My career found meaning when work in Africa presented itself – a 12-year adventure followed offering immense growth, both personally and professionally. Working across multiple sectors and markets, I partnered closely with CEO’s and leadership teams navigating the tension between global strategies and local realities. The ability to partner on a vision, to influence, shape and build sustainable growth across a continent with such complexity and promise enabled me to live the purpose I had so clearly sought throughout my life.
These leaders and those experiences shaped this current season of my life. My work, over the last 20 years, has increasingly focused on creating a space for leaders and teams to explore the increasingly complex environments and times of unprecedented change that they are navigating. Ultimately, the partnership with my clients focuses on driving greater impact through building meaningful relationships, surfacing the unsaid, and challenging the status quo. Whilst not always comfortable, the growth sits in the discomfort.
Why I Work With Teams
"If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together." This African proverb reflects my deeply held coaching philosophy that collectively we can create more impact than individually. Failure to harness this collective creativity, purpose, and passion leads to so much lost potential that we can ill afford to lose in our current global environment. The power and importance of working together has never been more critical.
Yet working together is not easy. My experience with teams has shown that working through the messy moments, getting it wrong together, and walking away with insights and learnings that change the way we do things takes courage, curiosity, and resilience. I've partnered with teams in incredibly complex environments who have taken on the challenge of this work, and the impact has been transformational for all of us involved. The impact we can create collectively is not just greater than what we can achieve alone - it's the impact the world needs in order to create a better tomorrow.
